RUSTON - Former Wright State men's and women's associate head tennis coach Chad Camper has been hired to be the new head coach of the Lady Techster tennis program, announced today by Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland.

"We are very excited to have someone of Chad's expertise and background lead our women's tennis program," said McClelland. "I believe that Chad has the skills, knowledge and drive to take our program to the next level. "

Camper takes over a program coming off one of its most successful spring seasons ever, finishing 2013 with a 15-5 overall record and a 7-1 league record. Previously, the Lady Techsters were a combined 1-26 against conference opponents.

The seven-person squad recently concluded an impressive fall season as well, compiling 72 total wins along with six main draw flight wins in singles and three in doubles in four regional tournaments.

"Louisiana Tech has all of the ingredients for a national ranked women's tennis program," said Camper. "With LA Tech now in Conference USA, all of the athletic programs will be able to grow to their potential.

"I believe this program can reach the top of C-USA and climb the national rankings. It will take a lot of work and outside-the-box thinking, but if we practice hard and put in the effort, great things will grow from this young team, in a short amount of time."

For the past three years, Camper served as an assistant coach for the Raiders and was most recently promoted to associate head coach this past July.

As a full-time assistant, the Lima, Ohio native was actively involved in the recruitment of future collegiate players both locally and internationally.

Camper recruited the 2012 men's Horizon League Newcomer of the Year and the 2012 men's Horizon League Player of the Year while also coaching the men's team to the Horizon Conference regular season title in 2011-12.

On the women's side, Camper helped take a WSU women's program with a previous 1-21 record to having three successful seasons, including a 14-win season in 2011, with first-time victories over Xavier, Ball State and IPFW.

Camper is the owner of many Wright State tennis records himself having lettered four years for the Raiders from 1998-2002.

He was named the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now Horizon League) Player of the Year as well as the Wright State Male Athlete of the Year as a junior in leading his team to the conference championship in 2001.

After graduating from WSU with school records of most singles wins (98), second most doubles wins (77) and second most career wins (175), Camper competed professionally on the ATP Tour from 2002-04.

Since finishing his playing career, he has owned and operated a successful logistics company called C.E. Camper LLC.

"Coaching was a second career for me in the beginning," said Camper. "After running my own successful business, I began coaching at Wright State and it didn't take long for me to realize this is what I want to do."

Camper has also had success as an independent junior development coach for the past 9 years, working with players one-on-one with the desire to play college tennis. He recently helped develop four nationally-ranked junior players for their college careers.
