RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team (0-1, 0-0 WAC) fell in its season opener by a score of 3-0 to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears Friday in the Southern Miss Invitational.
The Lady Techsters dropped three sets to Central Arkansas, who were picked as the preseason favorites to win the Southland Conference title, in their first game of the tournament Friday afternoon in Reed Green Coliseum.
Tech dropped the first and second sets 25-12 and 25-15, before eventually falling 25-18 in a competitive third set to finish the match.
"We have two important matches tomorrow and our focus now is learning what we could have done better and how to play together and support each other when the point is on the line," head coach Adriano de Souza said.
Despite the loss, Tech received an impressive performance from freshman middle blocker Dalane Guidry, who had a .600 hitting percentage for the two sets she played in the match.
On the day, the Techsters totaled 19 errors; one more than the 18 kills the team had during the match.
"We have to do better in the next two matches in order to decrease the number of unforced errors we had," de Souza said. "For the matches we will play tomorrow, our team can learn from every opportunity to improve."
Tech returns to action in the tournament tomorrow with two games set for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. against South Alabama and Southern Miss respectively. Live stats will be available for both games on www.LATechSports.com.
