Sept. 5, 2009 HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Louisiana Tech (6-2) recorded a 2-1 record in the Southern Miss. Invitational on their way to a second place finish this weekend, falling to host team Southern Miss. (6-1) in the Championship match Saturday afternoon with set scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-19. After topping Sam Houston State three sets to one in their first match of the day on Saturday, the Techsters just could not put any rallies together to defeat host team Southern Miss. in the Championship. "It was kind of a nixed bag for us today," Tech head coach Matt Sonnichsen said. "We struggled a bit earlier today against Sam Houston, but we were able to wear them down and get the win. However, with Southern Miss. they did not give us any opportunities to get a rally going. They definitely earned the championship. Their passing was excellent and their defensive transitions were also great." Senior KC Clayton and junior Kara Jones each were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances this weekend. Clayton and Jones earned All-Tournament honors for their dominance at the net as Clayton finished the tournament with 25 kills, one solo block and 11 assisted blocks while Jones totaled 22 kills, five solo blocks and six assisted blocks. "Southern Miss. definitely earned the tournament championship title this weekend," Sonnichsen said. "We want to congratulate them on a great tournament and we hope to take this experience and build on it." Louisiana Tech volleyball returns to action Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to Conway, Ark. for the Central Arkansas Tournament. The Techsters will start off the tournament against host Central Arkansas.
