RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech finished the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic with a 2-2 record on the weekend after dropping two matches to Weber State and the host team, Southeastern Louisiana on the last day of the tournament in Hammond, La.
Tech began the day with a three-set loss to the Weber State Wildcats 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 in University Center. Despite the loss, sophomore setter Maria Coelho paced the offense for the Techsters with four kills and 17 assists. She also recorded three block assists in the match.
The tournament concluded with Southeastern Louisiana knocking off Tech 25-22, 25-21, 25-14 in straight sets. Sophomore Regan Himmelberg led the Lady Techsters with a .364 hitting percentage for the match. Junior Clara Vido also also led with 10 kills against the Lady Lions.
The Techster volleyball team finished the weekend third in the tournament standings with two wins Friday night against UTPA and Southern. Weber State and Southeastern Louisiana ranked first and second respectively for the Classic.
Coelho was named to the all-tournament team for the her performance over the weekend, recording 44 assists in both matches today and 101 totals assists for the tournament. This is Coelho's second all-tournament selection this season as she was named to the Southern Miss Invitational All-Tournament squad in the first weekend of competition this weekend.
Tech will return to the court at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11 as they will travel to take on Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La.
