RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters fell Tuesday night in Prather Coliseum to the Lady Demons of Northwestern State in straight sets 25-11, 25-17, 25-14 in the final non-conference matchup of the campaign.
Northwestern State (6-4) jumped out front early on in its home opener, taking control of the first set by recording a .444 hitting percentage and notching 14 kills to take the advantage.
The Techsters (3-9, 0-0 WAC) were outhit throughout the match, as the Lady Demons recorded a .289 hitting percentage to Tech's .078 for the three sets played. Tech notched 20 kills in the match, 11 of them coming from freshman Fenix Calderon (6) and junior Emily Maher (5).
"We did not play our best volleyball tonight, but I trust our players and believe in them," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "The team will learn from this experience and continue to work hard in practice."
Sophomore Maria Coelho added 11 assists against the Lady Demons to bring her season total to a team-leading 320 over the course of 12 matches, while sophomore Ana Rodrigues added 10 digs for the Lady Techsters.
The Lady Techsters will return home to host UT Arlington in the team's conference opener at 2 p.m., Saturday in the Thomas Assembly Center before the Louisiana Tech football team faces off against Rice in Joe Aillet Stadium at 6 p.m. Saturday night.
