Techsters Pounce Lady Tigers in Straight Sets Win

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech defeated I-20 foe Grambling in convincing fashion with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-16) straight-sets victory over the Lady Tigers Tuesday night in the Thomas Assembly Center.

LA Tech (6-7) hit .423 to start the match and went on a 8-2 run to close out the first set before continuing to dominate Grambling (2-10) the rest of the way, while holding the Lady Tigers to a .000 hitting percentage at the conclusion of three sets.

As a team, the Lady Techsters put together a .279 clip and 15 total aces, tied for the second most this season, from behind the service line for its 25th series victory over Grambling all time and Tech's sixth win of the season.

"The team played well tonight and did several good things in the match," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "Tomorrow we return to practice and focus on preparing for our next match against Central Arkansas."

For LA Tech, Xzache Mathis and Rebecca Redgen continue to pace the Techsters' offense with 12 and 10 kills respectively for the duo. Mathis hit .261 for the match with four aces, seven digs and one block, while Redgen had 10 kills and five digs in the win. Redgen has now recorded double-digit kills in 11 of the 13 matches Tech has played this season.

Maria Coelho totaled 35 assists on the night, while also tallying three service aces, three kills and six digs. Coelho's three aces give her a total of 27 for the season, which leads all Lady Techsters in that category.

Sophomores Dalane Guidry and Fenix Calderon also contributed to the victory as the two combined for 10 kills on the night, while freshman Angela Papach totaled three kills for the Techsters.



Alejandra Aviles continued her recent good form and led in digs with 16 against the Lady Tigers. As a team, Tech totaled two blocks, while Grambling had three on the night.

LA Tech is now 4-1 in 2013 on its home court in the Thomas Assembly Center and will return home at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 to face in-state rival Northwestern State.

For their next match, the Lady Techsters will travel to Conway, Ark., Friday to battle the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears at 7 p.m. on the road.
