Final Stats

Charlotte, N.C. - For the first time since 2010, the Louisiana Tech volleyball team defeated a conference opponent as the Lady Techsters prevailed against Conference USA foe Charlotte, 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22), Friday night at Halton Arena in Charlotte.

The win snapped a 34-match conference losing streak for LA Tech (7-11, 1-2 C-USA) that dated back to the end of the 2010 season when LA Tech defeated then WAC foe Nevada in five sets. The win also breaks a four-match losing streak the team had coming into tonight's game versus the 49ers.

"I want to congratulate all our players for playing together and fighting hard for every point in this match," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "We have a group of very dedicated players who have put a lot of deliberate dedication into every practice they have had. They know that their efforts and intelligent choices helped them in the match today."

The Lady Techsters jumped out in the first set with a .300 hitting percentage and control of the match before allowing Charlotte (10-8, 0-3 C-USA) to tie it a 1-1 after a comeback in the second set. LA Tech quickly regained momentum and over-powered the 49ers late in the match to notch its first conference win of the season.

LA Tech had three players reach double digits in kills as Xzache Mathis (17 kills), Rebecca Redgen (13 kills) and Caitlin Germany (13 kills) paced the Techsters' offense over the course of four sets.

Dalane Guidry caused trouble for the 49ers all night as the sophomore totaled six blocks and also notched nine kills to help lead the team to a victory over the home team.

Maria Coelho led with 48 assists on the night, while libero Alejandra Aviles (20 digs) was one of three Tech players to reach double digits in digs along with Fenix Calderon (17 digs) and Coelho (10 digs).

As a team, LA Tech out-blocked Charlotte with a total of 12 blocks to the 49ers' six. The Lady Techsters were also a force to reckon with offensively with an attacking percentage of .259 compared to Charlotte's .138.

Louisiana Tech will look to continue its form from tonight as the Lady Techsters now travel to face Marshall at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cam Henderson Arena in Huntington, W.Va.
