HONOLULU -- Louisiana Tech played tough for two sets but eventually fell in three straight to sixth-ranked Hawaii at the Stan Sheriff Center late Friday night.

Hawaii (12-2, 6-0 WAC) defeated Tech for the second time this season, beating the Lady Techsters 25-15, 25-19, and 25-9 before 6,480 fans.

"I thought we played hard and competed for the first two sets," said Tech head coach Matt Sonnichsen. "Our kids just aren't used to playing (in front of this type of crowd). I was proud of the effort they gave. The last set we had that deer in the headlight look, but overall we are learning and progressing."

Tech (2-12, 0- 6) hung with Hawaii in the first set and found itself trailing only 13-11 before the Rainbow Wahine went on a 12-4 run to close the set. Hawaii's .450 hitting percentage in the opening set was too much for Tech to overcome.

The Lady Techsters found themselves leading in game No. 2 by the score of 8-7 before Hawaii once again used a strong run to grab a 20-11 lead. However, the Lady Techsters refused to go quietly and cut the deficit to 23-19 before Hawaii scored the final two points to close out the set.

In the third and final set, Hawaii jumped out to an early 9-3 lead and never slowed down in putting Tech away.

KC Clayton led Tech with six kills and a .417 hitting percentage while Natasha Kolunija added five kills and Kara Jones four kills. Bianca Bin recorded 12 assists in the loss while Clayton also led the team with three blocks.

Jamie Houston led the Rainbow Wahine with 10 kills.

Tech returns to action Tuesday at Centenary.
