RUSTON, La. - In its first five-set match of the season, the Louisiana Tech volleyball team gave a valiant effort, but eventually fell to the visiting Seattle Redhawks (25-18, 19-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-10) Thursday night in the Thomas Assembly Center.

The Techsters (3-17, 0-8 WAC) combined to record 57 kills against Seattle (7-11, 2-6 WAC), as head coach Adriano de Souza's squad rallied to win the second and third sets after being down 1-0 early in the match.

"I am proud of the way the team performed tonight," he said. "We played with a much higher intensity in sets two and three. I believe our players are improving and I believe they will come out ready to play another exciting match tomorrow night."

Tied at one set a piece, the Techsters stormed out to an early lead in the third set using an offensive onslaught to eventually take the set 25-17. With an attacking percentage of .405 in the third set alone, the team combined to record 17 kills and just two errors in one of its most effective sets this season.

Several career superlatives were met in the match, as sophomores Regan Himmelberg and Maria Coelho recorded personal bests of their own on the team's home court Thursday.

Himmelberg recorded a career-high 12 kills with a .455 attacking percentage and three blocks, as the sophomore out of Colleyville, Texas, was a stand-out for the Lady Techsters on the night. Coelho totaled a personal-best 46 assists, while also notching six kills and 14 digs against Seattle.

Freshman Fenix Calderon also proved to be an offensive threat in the match, totaling 11 kills with a .200 hitting percentage, while senior

Gabryel Ording returned to the court to total eight kills and seven blocks, as the defensive effort of the Techsters held off Seattle in the second and third sets. Tech totaled 11.0 blocks to Seattle's 5.0 and recorded seven aces to the Redhawks' two.

The Techsters will return to action at 7 p.m. tomorrow night to host the Idaho Vandals in another crucial conference matchup for the home team.

Promotions for Friday night's match include free pizza after the match with the Lady Techsters in the Waggonner Room of the Thomas Assembly Center.
