TULSA, Okla. - The Golden Hurricane held Louisiana Tech to a .155 hitting percentage and used that to ultimately take the match, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18), in straight sets Friday night in Conference USA action at Reynolds Center in Tulsa.
LA Tech (7-16, 1-7 C-USA) and Tulsa (19-4, 8-0 C-USA) played three competitive sets with the Golden Hurricane coming out on top in all three with the help of a team attacking percentage of .237.
The win extended Tulsa's winning streak to eight, while Louisiana Tech has now lost its last five matches and nine of its last 10.
Tulsa had two players reach double digits in kills with Kellie Culbertson and Ashley Cooper combining for 24 of the team's 46 kills on the night.
Maria Coelho had 23 assists in the match with three kills, seven digs, a service ace and three assisted blocks, while Caitlin Germany led at the net with a total of six assisted blocks on the night. As a team, Louisiana Tech out-blocked Tulsa 7.0 to 2.0.
Freshman libero Alejandra Aviles led with 22 digs versus the Golden Hurricane, while LA Tech as a whole had 46 total digs in the loss.
Louisiana Tech now returns home to play the Panthers of FIU in the team's annual Dig Pink match at 1 p.m. Sunday in Scotty Robertson's Memorial Gym. Free pink T-shirts will be given away to fans in attendance in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month while supplies last.
