Techster Volleyball Falls to Utah State on the Road

RUSTON, La. - Despite an impressive offensive performance by freshman Fenix Calderon, the Louisiana Tech volleyball squad fell in straight sets to the Aggies of Utah State 18-25, 19-25, 14-25 Saturday night in Logan, Utah.
Calderon recorded 10 kills and just four errors, while notching a .240 attacking percentage on the night to lead the Lady Techsters offensively.
LA Tech (3-22, 0-13) started strong, hitting above .200 and totaling 13 and 12 kills respectively in the first and second sets, but dropped off in the third set to record just seven kills and a negative hitting percentage.
Overall, the Aggies outhit Tech .360 to .127 over three sets, while notching 10 more total kills than the visiting Techsters with 42.
Utah State out-blocked the Techsters 7.0 to 1.0 in the match, with junior Caitlin Germany recording the only solo block against the Aggies. Germany also had five kills on the night and a .357 hitting percentage.
The match tonight concluded a two-match road stretch for head coach Adriano de Souza and his team as Tech will now head back to Ruston for its final two home matches of the 2012 season.
The Techsters will return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 at home to face the Texas State Bobcats in the Thomas Assembly Center.
