RUSTON--Four Techsters recorded double-digit kills in a close five set loss to WAC foe Boise State (6-19, 6-7 WAC) Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center. Set scores were 25-19, 20-25, 27-25, 23-25 and 15-9.
Junior Kassia Pinto led all Techsters in the match with 14 kills while Nataliya Panova, KC Clayton and Kara Jones also recorded double-digit kills for Tech. Pinto also led Tech in digs with 19 to record her fifth double-double of the season. Panova recorded her ninth double-double of the season as she added 12 digs. Jennifer Goodwin also recorded double-digit digs along with Lori Hunsucker who recorded double-digit digs for the fourth straight match.
After splitting the first two sets with convincing victories the third set came down to the wire. As soon as one team seemed to be pulling away, the other team would climb back into the set and vice-versa. The Techsters had their chance to take a 2-1 set lead with set point at 24-22. However, a kill by Boise's Alisha King and a Tech attacking error sent the set into deuce. With score tied at 25-25 King would come up with another timely kill to put Boise up one before Elizabeth Griffin won the set for the Broncos with a kill to make it 27-25.
The fourth set seemed to be all Techsters as the team held a 16-10 lead. The Broncos, however, managed to inch back into the set and eventually take a 21-19 lead over Tech. Rather than getting frustrated the team showed their ability to handle the adversity by battling back and going on a 6-2 run to win the set.
The fifth and final set is the first to 15 points. Tech held a 5-4 lead to begin the set before hitting a wall, allowing Boise State to go on a 6-1 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Techsters just did not seem to have an answer in the final set as the Broncos went on to win the set 15-9 and the match.
