Final Stats

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Louisiana Tech women’s volleyball team concluded its 2017 season with a tough 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-20) defeat to league-foe Southern Miss on Thursday evening from Reed Green Coliseum.

In her final match as a Lady Techster, senior Nia Myah Johnson impressed, coming off the bench to provide a team-high 10 kills on the evening. Fellow senior Marta Monne finished just shy of double-digit kills with nine, while freshman Emily Boylan played well in her starting role, contributing 6 kills and hitting .556 for the match.

Senior Brooke Short chipped in 23 assists along with six digs and a season-best five kills.

Tech looked like the team to beat in the first frame, racing out to a 12-7 lead and hitting .500 as a team, midway through the set. However, the Golden Eagles responded and took their first lead of the match at 19-18. Tech was unable to counter the big Southern Miss run and dropped the first set, 25-19.

The second set saw much of Southern Miss as the aggressor, as the Techsters faced an early 12-4 deficit and would drop the frame, 25-14.

Coming out of the 10-minute intermission, Tech looked like a team reenergized and refocused on the task at hand. The two teams went back-and-forth before a late 3-0 run clinched the set and the match for the Golden Eagles.
