RUSTON, La. - In the team's final home match of the season, Louisiana Tech fell victim to the UAB Blazers, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19), Sunday afternoon in the Thomas Assembly Center.
In three competitive sets, UAB (19-12, 6-6 C-USA) edged LA Tech (7-20, 1-11 C-USA) with a .147 hitting percentage and 12 more kills than the Lady Techsters as a whole.
The Blazers were led by Sara Rishell, who posted 10 kills, a .529 attacking percentage and a team-leading seven total blocks on the day.
As a team, UAB out-blocked the Lady Techsters with nine total blocks compared to LA Tech's seven. Kiriana Hirini also posted eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage to help pace the Blazers offensively.
In her final home match as a Lady Techster, senior Caitlin Germany posted a team-leading five blocks over the course of three sets, while also adding three kills versus the Blazers. In her career at LA Tech, the four-year letterwinner totaled 248 blocks with an average of 0.74 per set. Germany also recorded 492 kills over the course of four years as a Lady Techster.
As a team, LA Tech had 22 total kills, 21 assists, two aces and seven blocks in three sets against UAB.
The Lady Techsters return to the court at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 as they travel to face conference foe Tulane in road play. LA Tech will conclude the 2013 regular season the following Sunday to take on Rice at 1 p.m. in Houston, Texas.
