Monne Named First-Team All-Louisiana

April 23, 2018

RUSTON, La. - For the second straight season, Louisiana Tech volleyball's, Marta Monne, was named first team all-Louisiana as announced Saturday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Monne also earned first team all-Louisiana honors as a junior last season, becoming the first Lady Techster to earn such accolades since Lori Hunsuckerin in 2010.

"I am very happy for Marta," head coach Adriano de Souza noted. "This is the second straight year she had received this recognition for her performance. This is a great achievement for her. During the 2017 season, Marta was once more our most complete volleyball player and our most reliable attacker and leader on the court. She is a fierce competitor, very intelligent, a hard worker and has been a great example of players who make a positive impact on their team throughout their entire collegiate career."

Nominees for all-Louisiana were submitted by the players' respective schools and voting followed by both the media and sports information personnel in the state who were not permitted to vote for their school's player.

Monne was also named second-team all-Conference USA earlier this year, joining Rebecca Redgen (Second Team All-C-USA, 2014) as the only two players to earn All-Conference USA recognition in the program's history.

The versatile outside hitter played in 98 sets this season, while accumulating a team-high 320 kills and averaging 3.27 kills per set. She also came close to recording her second straight 300+ kill-300+ dig season as she tallied 282 digs on the year.

Monne registered a team-best 13 double-doubles in 2017, after also leading least year's team with the same amount.

Her senior campaign was highlighted by arguably her most dominant match as a Techster in a five-set fight against FIU on October 22. In the match, Monne posted a career-high 25 kills along with 19 digs, while hitting .288.

Then, just five days later, the Milan, Italy, native led Tech to its second league triumph of the season as she struck for 22 kills while hitting at a season-best .425 on the road against UTEP.

After a serious knee injury forced her to redshirt her freshman season in 2013, she returned to the court in 2014 and improved her kill totals in each of her next four seasons as a Techster. For her career, she finished with 975 total kills (2.56 kills per set) and 921 total digs (2.42 digs per set).

LSU's Taylor Bannister was named the LSWA Player of the Year, while Xavier's Pat Kendrick was named Coach of the Year.

The Lady Techsters are nearing the end of a successful competitive spring period, welcoming several new faces to the court for next year.
