De Souza Set to Speak at LHSCA Convention

June 5, 2018

RUSTON, La. – With the 2018 season rapidly approaching, Louisiana Tech volleyball head coach Adriano de Souza will take some time to speak to coaches throughout the Louisiana area on “Developing Game Intelligence and Skillful Players”.

“I believe it us very important to create conversations about how to better mentor young players to be competitive, while still enjoying the game of volleyball,” de Souza noted. “I am honored to have the chances to stir up some thoughts with our volleyball coaches throughout the state of Louisiana.”

Under de Souza’s tutelage, Tech volleyball has seen win improvements in five of his six seasons in Ruston.  De Souza took charge of the program in in 2012, and steered the Lady Techsters to increasing win totals in each of his first five seasons. In 2016, the team won 13 matches – the most since the 2010 season.

Before coming to Louisiana Tech, de Souza spent the past four years as an assistant volleyball coach at Illinois State where he helped rebuild the Redbirds program, leading it to the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament two straight years.

De Souza, originally from Brazil, a country with a great volleyball history and tradition, began playing the sport at the age of 14. He spent three years (2001-03) as the volleyball coach and co-administrator for two men's teams in the city of Rio Claro, Brazil. His under-21 men's team was the regional runner-up all three years, while his under-19 men's team was the APV League Champion in 2001, and posted a runner-up finish in 2002. In 1999, de Souza mentored the under-21, under-19 and under-16 women's programs at Club Regatas in Campinas, Brazil, before coming to the U.S. to begin his Division I coaching career

For youngsters interested in learning the game from some at the highest level, there are still a few spots remaining for LA Tech’s Youth Summer Camps. Please visit or contact assistant coach Gabby Ording ( for more information.
