RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech head volleyball coach Adriano de Souza has announced the hiring of Dustin Sahlmann as an assistant coach to the Lady Techster Volleyball staff for the upcoming 2014 season. Sahlmann comes to Ruston after an assistant and interim head coaching stint at the University of New Orleans last season.
While at UNO, Sahlmann was responsible for training the setters, defensive specialists and libero's, while also serving as the recruiting coordinator for the Lady Privateers. Sahlmann assisted in organizing and administrating practice plans and was in charge of game planning in his one-year stint at UNO.
"I am very happy to bring Dustin to our coaching staff. His work ethic and values match the qualities I look for in those I trust to keep developing our volleyball program," de Souza said. "In addition, Dustin's game knowledge and recruiting skills are strengths that will add to how we administrate and improve our program. His primary responsibilities will be recruiting and assisting in all facets of player development and team competitiveness."
Prior to his time with the Privateers, Sahlmann spent two seasons as the head volleyball coach at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, where his duties included game and practice administration, recruiting, scheduling, fundraising and overseeing all academic progress for the student-athletes.
In addition to serving as the head coach at Philander Smith College, Sahlmann also spent six years as the director of player development for the Little Rock Juniors Volleyball Club, a training program designed for young volleyball players in Central Arkansas, between 2007 and 2013.
From 2007 to 2008, Sahlmann also served as a head coach for the Pulaski Academy volleyball team in Little Rock, where he helped with the organization of practices for both junior high and high school teams.
Sahlmann has earned his degree from the University of Phoenix at Little Rock in 2009, where he studied Business Management. He also spent time working on his business degree at both Arkansas and UALR.
Although he is a native of Pasco, Wash., Sahlmann is a graduate of McDowell High School in Erie, Pa. Sahlmann is married to Shea, who was a college volleyball player at Henderson State. They have two children, Britney and Arron.
