Volleyball Wraps Up First Week of Practice
RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech’s volleyball team finished its first week of practice Friday morning in the Lambright Center on campus and is getting ready for the 2007 season which is around the corner.
Tech head coach Heather Mazeitis said after practice she was pleased with her team’s progress so far and expects good things from her team.
“I think we are working at a high rate of intensity, but also being smart about what we are doing. The girls have responded well to that,” Mazeitis said. “We are staying healthy and working towards making sure we are in the best shape possible with the coming season.”
The Lady Techsters return three seniors among eight letterwinners from last season in Jill Walker, Kristen Fairbanks and preseason All-WAC Shannon Phillips. Also returning are junior Brittney Nakamura along with star sophomores KC Clayton and Sam Crowder with Lindsey Armstrong and Kaycie Artim.
New to the team are freshmen Kara Jones and Taylor Fritz from Moody and Spring, Texas, respectively, and junior transfer Debora Bolohnini. Mazeitis said her newcomers are adapting well and building good chemistry with the rest of the team.
“They just blend right in,” Mazeitis said. “Our freshmen seem like they have already been here for a while, and (Bolohnini) is just fantastic with a great personality. They fit right in and take us to a different level. It’s really fun to watch them. Our veterans mix it up a little bit and it’s all just really good right now.”
The Lady Techsters open the season Aug. 24 at the Rice Tournament in Houston.
