Lady Techsters Wrap Up Week One of Fall Camp

Aug. 11, 2017

RUSTON, La. -- With the 2017 NCAA season right around the corner, the Louisiana Tech women's volleyball team reported for a busy first week of preseason practice.

The Lady Techsters began the week with team meetings on Monday followed by two-a-days and various team activities leading up to the season opener on August 25 against Ole Miss. Head coach Adriano de Souza noted the Lady Techsters' early willingness to communicate and push each other.

"This team is ready to take on any challenge that we present to them and they've been improving in all of the little things we've asked them to do", de Souza said. "This team communicates more with each other than I have seen in a while. Their ability to see, share and execute information in a game is important to our success."

Tech enters 2017 with a rare mixture of proven veteran leaders with up-and-coming young talent. Bringing in seven newcomers (six freshmen and one transfer) can be a daunting task, but de Souza sees it as a positive challenge for both the coaching staff and the nine returnees.

"The coaching staff and our returning players must be the best examples for our newcomers", de Souza added. "We must show commitment every day, starting with our work ethic in practice. We need to keep pushing forward even in the moments of adversity."

Consistent improvement has been a moniker for de Souza's squads, as his teams have increased their win totals from the previous seasons in each of his five years. Facing a 2017 slate with six opponents who finished among the top-95 in last year's RPI rankings (WKU-16, UTSA-63, Rice-66, Saint Louis-81, North Dakota-92, Ole Miss-95) will undoubtedly test the Techsters this season.

Fans will have an opportunity to interact with the 2017 Lady Techster volleyball team at the Ruston Fan Fest on Saturday, August 19 at the Thomas Assembly Center. Members of both the football and volleyball squads will participate in autograph sessions from 11 a.m. to noon. Following the fan fest, the Lady Techsters will scrimmage at the Thomas Assemble Center at 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the general public.

The 2017 regular season gets underway on August 25 when Tech takes on Ole Miss in the Rebel Invitational at 11 a.m. The match can be seen live on SEC Network+. LA Tech will open its home schedule against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Memphis and Sam Houston State on September 8-9 at the Lady Techster Invitational.
