RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team reported for fall workouts Thursday evening and have hit the ground running ever since in preparation of the 2013 season, which is set to begin Aug. 30 versus Grambling State in Arlington, Texas.
The 2013 team features five returning starters and nine newcomers as head coach Adriano de Souza has revamped the roster in a year's time in order to achieve success on and off the court this season.
The Lady Techsters have endured daily workouts, practices and team meetings over the course of the last four days, and with three weeks until the first match of the 2013 campaign, this year's squad is looking to improve on a 3-27 mark last season.
"I am pleased with the effort and mindset all the players have brought to practice in these first days of practice," de Souza said. "Their ability to develop their physical and volleyball skills, their game intelligence and their social and emotional skills that surrounds all their activities on and off the court is paramount for their personal and program growth this year."
Seniors Caitlin Germany and Clara Vido begin their fourth and final year with the program, as Maria Coelho, Fenix Calderon and Dalane Guidry also return for de Souza's second year at the helm of the team.
Those five are joined on court by newcomers Alejandra Aviles, Jessie Ely, Xzache Mathis, Katy McFadden, Marta Monne, Angela Papach, Rebecca Redgen, Isabella Rosania and Hannah Wright to complete this year's roster.
LA Tech is set to host 13 home matches this season, but will begin the season with an appearance in the 2013 UTA Hilton Invitational from Aug. 30-31 in Arlington, Texas before returning home. The Techsters will kick off their home schedule at 7 p.m., Sept. 3 when UAPB travels to Ruston for the match.
