Techster Volleyball Announces Addition to Coaching Staff

RUSTON, La. - Head coach Adriano de Souza announced Thursday the addition of Gabriele Tortorici to the Lady Techster Volleyball team's coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Tortorici will serve as a volunteer assistant coach for the Lady Techster volleyball team in 2012.

Tortorici comes to Ruston from Rome, Italy, where he has been coaching volleyball since 2007. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach in 2011 with Volleyro' Casal de' Pazzi in Rome, whose head coach is now the current coach for the Italian Girls' Youth National Team.

Tortorici has several years of volleyball experience on his resume, as he began playing the sport of volleyball at age 11.

During his playing career, he won two regional championships while playing for Casal de' Pazzi, in Rome.

In addition, he was considered one the best players in his region when competing at the National Championship. He was able to play in the National Championship for 5 years, first for Casal Bertone, then for Casal de Pazzi and, finally for Monterotondo, the team that won the National Championship in 2010.

Tortorici graduated in 2009 from Sapienza - Università di Roma with a degree in international economics. Prior to graduating, he was an exchange student at Universidad de Cadiz in Spain, where he was a part of the University's beach volleyball team in 2008.

The Louisiana Tech volleyball team kicks off its 2012 campaign August 24 against Central Arkansas in the Southern Miss Invitational.
