The Lady Techsters wrapped up the 2012 season last November against the Mavericks of UT Arlington and now return to Texas for tournament play to begin 2013.

Techster Volleyball Devours Lady Tigers for First Victory
After spouting off 16 straight points in the third set, the Louisiana Tech volleyball team stormed past Grambling State in straight sets to earn its first win of the 2012 campaign 25-13, 25-10, 25-6 in front of an energetic crowd in the Thomas Assembly Center Wednesday night.

"Now, we start a new stage in our season, which is going on the road and playing matches, learning from each match, coming home, fixing things and then going out and playing again," head coach Adriano de Souza said of this weekend's competition.

LA Tech will play three matches in two days at College Park Center on the campus of UT Arlington in the first week of competition and its inaugural season as a Conference USA member.

Following their opening match versus the Lady Tigers, the Lady Techsters will face off against Abilene Christian at 11 a.m. Saturday morning before battling the host Mavericks at 7 p.m. that night.

"I think the team wants to play somebody different than they have played this preseason, which is themselves," the second-year head coach said. "We have been scrimmaging and they have been trying to do some things I asked them to do, but now they are ready to go out and play different teams and see the results we can get. We need to take care of serving well, blocking well and taking care of the things we can control in the game."

With nine newcomers and just four returning players from last season's roster, LA Tech will use an array of new faces over the course of the weekend and into the first few weeks of non-conference play in anticipation the C-USA slate.

"The newcomers and the players that were here before are doing a great job of helping each other in practice," de Souza said of the team's chemistry. "They have really meshed well together. They are ready to travel. They are helping each other on the floor and have made each other better so far."
