Tech Volleyball Gears Up for Sam Houston State Tournament
RUSTON -- The Louisiana Tech volleyball team (0-4; 0-0 WAC) is traveling to Huntsville, Texas, for a four match volleyball tournament at the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum hosted by the Sam Houston State Bearkats.
“Again, it’s another good tournament for us,” Tech head coach Heather Mazeitis said. “I feel like we’ve fixed the things that were bad for us in the Wichita State Tournament, and my hope is that through that we’re focusing and progressing as a team. We are a good team, and we need to play like a good team.”
The Lady Techsters will open the Sam Houston State tournament against the Radford Highlanders (0-3; 0-0) at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, and will play a second game on the same day against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (2-1; 0-0) at 4:30 p.m.
“I think this weekend with four matches again we’re in good shape,” Mazeitis said. “It’s just a matter of making sure we do all the right things at the right time. I think all the training we’ve done this past week will lead us in the right direction.”
Tech will play again on the following day beginning at 11:30 a.m. against host Sam Houston State and at 4:30 p.m. against North Texas (1-3; 0-0).
“These are four very good opponents,” Mazeitis said. “We’re not in any slack tournaments at all this season. We scheduled this way in hopes to better prepare us for conference. I just hope we come out of this tournament better than we did last weekend.”
The Lady Techsters opened the season last weekend at the Best Western Shocker Volleyball Classic by going winless, but Mazeitis said afterwards she saw fixable areas on her team that she believes have been addressed.
“The girls are working tremendously hard,” Mazeitis said. “There’s been definite progress to this week from last week; I just hope it shows up in the matches.”
