@LATechVB Set to Compete in McNeese Invitational
Sept. 4, 2014
LA Tech will face off against three opponents over the course of two days, beginning with a 10 a.m. match scheduled against Jackson State on Friday, before taking on the host Cowgirls at 2:30 p.m. later that afternoon. The third and final match of the weekend will pit the Lady Techsters against former Western Athletic Conference foe UT Arlington at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Led by third year head coach Adriano de Souza, LA Tech enters the weekend with a 1-2 record after competing against Oakland, Saint Francis and Western Michigan one week ago at the Bronco Classic in Kalamazoo, Mich., to open the 2014 season.
"Our team returned from the first weekend of play with one goal in mind and that was fixing some aspects of our game that could have worked better for us during our first three matches," de Souza said. "The team has put a lot of effort in during practice in the past few days and they are motivated and ready to compete against three very good teams."
Rebecca Redgen leads LA Tech with 26 kills and an average of 2.36 kills per set after starting all three matches last weekend at the Bronco Classic, where she represented the Lady Techsters on the all-tournament team. Dalane Guidry is also team leader with 12 total blocks (1.09 per set) after one week of play, while Alejandra Aviles is ranked second in Conference USA with 5.09 digs per set thus far.
Last season, the Lady Techsters faced off against McNeese State at the Louisiana Tech Invitational and prevailed, 3-2, in a five-set battle. Tech also took on UT Arlington last season in tournament play and fell just short by a score of 3-1. The Lady Techsters will take on Jackson State and McNeese State on Friday, before closing out the tournament on Saturday with a match scheduled against the Mavericks of UT Arlington.
In LA Tech's two matches on Friday, the Lady Techsters hold the advantage with a 4-1 series record against Jackson State and a 6-4 all-time record against the McNeese State Cowgirls. On Saturday, Tech will take on UT Arlington, who leads the series, 7-2, and has won five straight meetings dating back to the 1995 season when LA Tech beat the Mavericks in three sets.
