Tech Volleyball Finishes Off Lipscomb in Four Games

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Lady Techsters came out firing early in game three after being tied at one game and coasted the rest of the way for the victory over Lipscomb in first of two matches on the opening day of the Tiger Invitational Friday, Sept. 8, in the Roane Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Memphis.

The Lady Techsters won the first game 30-20, but the Lady Bison answered in the second game with a win by the same score.

It would not last, however, as the Techsters used an early scoring run in the third game to take the momentum and go on to win the match by scores of 30-20 and 30-23.

Junior Shannon Phillips finished with her ninth consecutive double-double with a total of 10 kills and 14 digs. Senior Ambra Hayes added her sixth double-double of the season and her second in a row with 20 kills and 15 digs. Junior Jenny Denton totaled 42 assists and sophomore Brittney Nakamura totaled 19 digs.

The Lady Techsters also outblocked Lipscomb 11 to one for the match with true freshmen Sam Crowder and KC Clayton leading the way with five blocks apiece, while Hayes tacked on four. Clayton also added 10 kills in the match.

The Lady Techsters return to action at 4 p.m. against the Univeristy of Arkansas-Little Rock in the final match of the first day and will play against Southeast Missouri and Memphis Saturday.
