RUSTON, La. - Off to their best start in four years, the Techsters (6-2) will travel to Conway, Ark. this weekend for the Central Arkansas Sugar Bear Classic as their first match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Prince Center where Tech will take on host team Central Arkansas.
After opening the season by winning the Lady Techster Invitational, the Techsters would follow by winning an away match vs. Northwestern State before taking second place in the Southern Miss. Invitational.
Central Arkansas (4-2) is coming off a straight sets victory over Southeast Missouri State (3-3). The Sugar Bears were led in the match by junior Chloe Smith who registered 17 kills in the match.
After the Southern Miss. Tournament the Techsters now have had four different players in Bianca Bin, Lori Hunsucker, KC Clayton and Kara Jones earn All-Tournament honors on the year as well as Nataliya Panova earning Tournament MVP honors for the Lady Techster Invitational.
Panova currently ranks second in the Western Athletic Conference in kills at this point in the season averaging 2.76 kills per set. Hunsucker also ranks in the WAC as she is number one in the conference in total digs with 107. Joining Panova and Hunsucker on the top ten lists in the conference is Clayton and Jones as the duo ranks sixth and seventh in the conference in blocks per set. Jones leads the conference with 11 solo blocks on the year.
The Techsters match vs. Central Arkansas Thursday at 7:00 p.m. will be the only match of the tournament played on Thursday. Friday the Techsters will take on Air Force (5-3) at 12:00 p.m. and UAPB (0-3) at 4:00 p.m. before finishing the up the tournament Saturday at 10:00 a.m. vs.ULM (1-6).
