RUSTON, La. - After three weeks of tournament and regular season play, the Louisiana Tech volleyball team (3-9, 0-0 WAC) will host Western Athletic Conference foe UT Arlington in the team's first conference matchup of the season.
Tech will welcome WAC newcomer UT Arlington (4-8, 0-0 WAC) to the Thomas Assembly Center at 2 p.m., Saturday with the Mavericks holding 2-4 advantage in head-to-head matchups against the Lady Techsters. This meeting, however, will mark the first between the two schools as conference opponents.
The Techsters' match will mark the beginning of a busy day for Tech athletics with the Bulldog football team taking on Rice at Joe Aillet Stadium at 6 p.m., Saturday and head coach Adriano de Souza encourages all Tech fans to show up in support of both Tech teams.
"Our players are excited and looking forward to starting our conference season at home," he said. "I would like to invite all of our Tech football fans to come out and watch the LATech volleyball team compete in WAC play before heading across the street to watch the football game."
Tech is led by junior middle blocker Emily Maher, who has recorded 72 kills while averaging 1.95 thus far this season. Sophomore setter Maria Coelho continues to put up numbers offensively with 320 assists on the season, ranking her eighth in the WAC standings.
UT Arlington will head into Ruston with a 2-2 record in its last four matches, the latest a straight sets loss to Big 12 opponent TCU on the road in the Maverick's last non-conference match before WAC play.
