Techster Volleyball Drops Season Opener in Southern Miss Invitational
The Louisiana Tech volleyball team (0-1, 0-0 WAC) fell in its season opener by a score of 3-0 to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears Friday in the Southern Miss Invitational.

As for the Sugar Bears, Central Arkansas has made a 7-3 start to the season with a notable win over No. 20 Kansas early in the campaign. UCA recently will host Abilene Christian, a team that beat LA Tech by a slim 3-2 margin earlier this season, Thursday night before taking on the Lady Techsters Friday evening.

The two teams have met just twice in the all-time series with Central Arkansas getting the best of the Lady Techsters both times. The last time these two teams met, the Sugar Bears defeated LA Tech 3-0 in 2012.

"I know our players are looking forward to our next opportunity to compete and represent Louisiana Tech," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "This pre-season has been a matter of playing matches, going back to practices, making adjustments and then getting back on the court to compete again.

"Central Arkansas is a strong team that brings back a lot of experience after making it to the NCAA Tournament in 2012. I believe our players will take this match as a great opportunity in the process of our program development."

Going into tomorrow's match, Louisiana Tech is leading all Conference USA teams in service aces with 106 total and an average of 2.00 per set. Additionally, junior setter Maria Coelho is ranked second individually among conference opponents with 27 total aces and 0.51 per set this season.

Junior outside hitter Rebecca Redgen continues to lead all Lady Techsters offensively with 172 total kills and 3.31 per set in 2013. Redgen is followed closely by Xzache Mathis, who is second on the team with 155 kills and 3.30 per set in 13 matches played.
