RUSTON, La. - After dropping a thrilling four-set match to New Mexico State Thursday night, head coach Adriano de Souza and the Louisiana Tech volleyball team will travel to Denver, Colo., to take on the Denver Pioneers in the first conference match between the two teams.
The two teams will face off in the match that is set for 8 p.m. CST Saturday in Hamilton Coliseum, with the Lady Techsters (3-11, 0-2 WAC) in search of their first conference victory of the year.
Tech (3-11, 0-2 WAC) is coming off a 3-1 loss to the conference-leading Aggies in a match that marked some firsts for the volleyball program. Denver (7-5, 1-2 WAC) will follow up a 3-0 sweep of UT Arlington and come into the match having faced Idaho and Seattle in the Pioneers' first season of WAC play, dropping both matches in three and five sets respectively.
Junior outside hitter Clara Vido is coming off her 17th career double-double and her third of the season as she totaled 17 kills and 11 digs in the team's latest match against the Aggies of New Mexico State, while freshman middle blocker Dalane Guidry recorded six total blocks in the last match.
Sophomore setter Maria Coelho, the team's leader in assists with 396, recently caught up with junior middle blocker Caitlin Germany for the lead in total blocks this season with 31.0, four of those solo blocks.
The match will mark a welcome return for sophomore Paige Cooper as she travels back to her hometown of Denver, Colo., to take on the Pioneers. The Colorado native is a graduate of Highlands Ranch High School.
