RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech will close out non-conference play with a midweek matchup with in-state opponent Northwestern State at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston.

Tomorrow night's contest will mark the final match before the Lady Techsters begin their first season in Conference USA play.

LA Tech is coming off a straight-sets loss to Central Arkansas on the road and is looking to notch its first win over the Lady Demons since the 2009 volleyball season.

Techsters Fall to In-State Foe Northwestern State
The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters fell Tuesday night in Prather Coliseum to the Lady Demons of Northwestern State in straight sets 25-11, 25-17, 25-14 in the final non-conference matchup of the campaign.

As for the Northwestern State, the Lady Demons have made a 5-8 start to the season and are currently on a four-match winning streak with their latest win being a 3-0 victory over New Orleans, a team LA Tech defeated earlier in the season.

The two in-state opponents have met 29 times in the all-time series Northwestern State getting the best of the Lady Techsters in 25 of those meetings.

"It is good to play our last non-conference match at home," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "Northwestern State is a strong team and will push our players in many different parts of our game. This is exactly what we need as we continue to develop our program."

With six wins on the season, LA Tech is making its way up some national rankings. With a team average of 1.98 aces per set, the Lady Techsters are ranked fourth in the nation in that category, while junior setter Maria Coelho is ranked 20th nationally in aces per set with an average of 0.50.

Offensively, junior outside hitter Rebecca Redgen leads the Lady Techsters with 178 kills and 3.24 per set in 14 matches in her first season with the team. Redgen has totaled double-digits in kills in 11 of 14 matches she has played this season. Xzache Mathis is second on the team with 166 kills.

At the net, senior Caitlin Germany leads the team in blocks and blocks per set with 32 and 0.67, while Coelho and Dalane Guidry are right behind her with 23 blocks each on the season thus far.
