RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team (3-14, 0-5 WAC) are gearing up to hit the road for two straight conference road matches starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday as they look to speed past the UTSA Roadrunners in San Antonio, Texas.
The Lady Techsters are still in pursuit of their first Western Athletic Conference win this season as they will compete against UTSA, which is fourth in the conference standings with a 10-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in WAC action.
"We are looking forward to competing again and keep growing as a team," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "Our players have been working well together in practice. I believe they will start applying their training to their game."
Tech is looking to break an eight match losing streak as they will face a team in UTSA that holds a 1-3 all-time record against them in head-to-head matchups.
Two of the four matches the teams have played have gone the distance, with both matches stretched to five sets. Both matches resulted in losses, including the most recent contest between the two schools on Sept. 8, 2007 in the Roadrunners' home tournament.
The Techsters continue to receive offensive production from sophomores Maria Coelho and Bridget Benditz, as well as junior Clara Vido. Coelho, the team's setter, leads the team in assists with 469 on the year and an average of 7.95 per set, while Benditz is tied for the leader in kills per set with teammate Vido with 2.24.
Defensively, the team is led by junior middle blocker Caitlin Germany, who has totaled 42.0 blocks this season, while averaging 1.11 per set. Germany has recorded 11.0 total blocks in five WAC matches thus far in 2012.
