Volleyball Falls to SMU in Three
DALLAS- Louisiana Tech could not slow down SMU in Western Athletic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Techsters fell to the Mustangs (23-30, 25-30, 16-30) at Moody Coliseum in Dallas.
The victory gave SMU its seventh straight win and kept the Mustangs (12-4, 3-0 WAC) in first place in the Eastern Division of the WAC.
Megan Rush led Tech with six kills as Tech hit just .085 for the match while posting just 29 kills in the three games.
Tech (11-7, 1-2 WAC) got off to a strong start in game one but could not maintain its offensively consistency as SMU went out to a 17-11 lead. The Mustangs eventually took the first game by a 30-23 score.
The Lady Techsters led 6-2 in the early going of game two behind the strong serving of Joy Okpa, but it would not last. SMU built a 10-point lead late in the game and held off a rally by Tech to take a two game lead in the match with a 30-25 game two win.
In game three it was SMU who got off to a fast start as the Ponies built a 10-4 in the early going against Tech. The Mustangs went on to clinch the match with a 30-16 victory in the third game.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Tuesday night to begin a busy week for the Lady Techsters. Tech hosts UL-Monroe on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Lady Techsters return to WAC action next Thursday night against Rice at 7 p.m. and end the week by hosting Tulsa at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
