Volleyball Cruises Past Tulsa in Four Games
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech got back in a win column with a four game victory over Tulsa (30-27, 30-28, 28-30, 30-28) on Saturday afternoon in Thomas Assembly Center in Western Athletic Conference volleyball action.
A phenomenal defensive effort paced the Lady Techsters to the win over the Golden Hurricane. Tech’s solid defensive effort allowed Tech to overcome a .135 hitting percentage. The Lady Techsters held Tulsa to a .128 hitting percentage in the victory.
Cristine Sant’Anna led Tech with 20 kills while recording 18 digs for the double-double.
Joy Okpa and Megan Rush both tallied 12 kills for Tech in the match.
All four games were tight as the Lady Techsters were able to come up with enough plays in three of the games to walk away with the victory.
It looked as though Tulsa might force a fifth game after taking an early 15-9 lead in game four but Tech scored six straight points to take a 16-15 lead in game four.
The teams went back and forth the rest of the game before the Lady Techsters broke a 28-28 tie on a kill my Rush to take the lead for good at 29-28. On the next point, freshman Kristen Fairbanks put away a free ball to give Tech the victory over Tulsa.
Tech recorded 87 digs in the match and 10 blocks.
Heather Anderson led Tech with 19 digs in the match.
Tech is now 13-8 on the season and 2-3 in WAC play while Tulsa falls to 11-8 and 2-4 in WAC play.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Thursday night when the Lady Techsters make the long trip across the Pacific Ocean to take on second-ranked Hawaii at 12:05 (CST).
