Tech Falls to Rice in Three Games
HOUSTON – Louisiana Tech could not solve Rice on Saturday night as the Owls defeated the Lady Techsters in three games (24-30, 19-30, 22-30) at Autry Court in Western Athletic Conference volleyball action.
Rice (16-9, 7-4 WAC) moved its home record to 11-1 with a loss to second-ranked Hawaii as its only blemish.
Tech (15-13, 3-8 WAC) returns home with a split on its road trip after defeating Tulsa in three games on Thursday night.
Game one saw both teams play very well on the offensive end of the court as Tech hit .333, but it was not enough as Rice posted a .404 hitting percentage in game one in a 30-24 victory. The teams went back and fourth with Rice holding a slim lead until a late surge gave the Owls a six point win.
Rice cruised in game two, taking advantage of 11 hitting errors and a .086 hitting percentage by the Lady Techsters to take a two game lead with a 30-19 victory in game two.
Cristine Sant’Anna led Tech with 18 kills and 19 digs. Lia Mora recorded her second career double double and the second in school history with 10 kills, 31 assists and 14 digs.
Tech was hurt by 11 service errors and just one ace.
Tech got off to a slow start in game three as the Owls took a 17-10 and never looked back. Rice clinched the match with a 30-22 victory in game three after holding a late rally by the Lady Techsters.
Louisiana Tech has two regular season matches remaining, November 8th versus SMU and November 13 against UTEP both at home.
