RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech returns home this weekend for the final time this season as the Lady Techsters play hosts to Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m. Friday and UAB at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston.
LA Tech (7-18, 1-9 C-USA) is coming off a road defeat at the hands of North Texas last Friday, while Florida Atlantic (10-14, 2-8 C-USA) recently fell in four sets to Rice at home. The Owls are currently one spot ahead of Louisiana Tech in the C-USA volleyball standings, ranking 13th in the league.
The Lady Techsters will then take on the Blazers of UAB (18-11, 5-5 C-USA), who are coming off a midweek loss to SEC-foe Alabama in straight sets. With a .500 record in league play, UAB is ranked eighth out of 15 total teams in the conference standings.
The two home contests this weekend will conclude the Lady Techsters' home portion of their schedule, while the 2013 regular season will wrap up the following week with road matches against Tulane and Rice scheduled for Nov. 15 and Nov. 17.
Sunday's match versus the Blazers will also mark Senior Day for Caitlin Germany, the lone senior on this year's squad, in the team's last home contest of the season, as there will be a ceremony honoring Germany immediately following Sunday's match.
NEED ASSISTANCE? - Averaging 8.63assists per set and ranked 12th in C-USA, Coelho, a Brazilian native, has assisted her teammates a total of 820 times in 2013.
CAN YOU DIG IT? - Freshman Alejandra Aviles seems to be adjusting well in her first collegiate season with the Techsters. Aviles leads the team in digs and digs per set with 309 and 3.68, as well as ranking 14th in the league in digs per set as a freshman.
THAT'S KILLER - Junior outside hitter Xzache Mathis leads the Lady Techsters with 298 total kills in 25 matches in her first season with the team. Mathis has a team-leading 3.51 kills per set and recently moved into a tie for fourth place in team history for kills in a single match with 28 vs. SFA. Rebecca Redgen is second on the team with 272 kills and is averaging 2.89 kills per set this season.
ACES ACROSS THE BOARD - Coelho currently leads the team with 40 aces and is ranked 26th in the nation in aces per set with 0.42. As a team, LA Tech is ranked 19th nationally and 1st in C-USA with 1.64 aces/set. Additionally, after an eight-ace performance Sept. 7 versus New Orleans, Coelho moved into a tie for first place all-time in LA Tech Volleyball history for most aces in a single-match.
