Volleyball Falls to SMU in Three
RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech could not use the emotion of Parents’ and Senior Night to overcome SMU on Saturday night as the Mustangs claimed a three game victory over Louisiana Tech (24-30, 26-30, 13-30).
The Lady Techsters (15-4, 3-9 WAC) have one more regular season match left on Thursday night against UTEP at home with the winner claiming the seventh seed at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, Nov. 21-23 on Reno, Nev.
Tech struggled on the offensive end as the Lady Techsters posted a .088 hitting percentage for the match.
The Lady Techster committed 31 hitting errors in the match.
Megan Rush led Tech with 13 kills while Cristine Sant’Anna posted 10 kills.
Tech hung with the second-place Ponies in games one and two but SMU took control down the stretch in each game.
In game one, a block by Rush and Laura Osterahus got the Lady Techsters within 26-23 but SMU (20-6, 10-2 WAC) responded with two consecutive points and went on to take a 30-24 victory in game one.
Game two, trailed by a 20-19 count before SMU took control with a 7-1 and went on to take a two game lead with a 30-26 win in game two.
SMU hit .531 in game three while Tech committed nine hitting errors as the Mustangs had little trouble to take a 30-13 win in the third game.
Beth Karasek led SMU with 16 kills while Jackie Niederstadt added 14 for the Mustangs.
A win over UTEP on Thursday at home will likely mean Tech and the Ponies would face each other in the opening round of the WAC Tournament.
