Techsters Fall to UT Arlington Mavericks to Open WAC Play
Despite pushing the UT Arlington Mavericks to four sets, the Louisiana Tech volleyball team (3-10, 0-1 WAC) fell to UT Arlington Saturday afternoon three sets to one in the Thomas Assembly Center in the opening match of WAC play.

LA Tech will be looking to break a 20-match losing streak this week against the Mavericks in the team's final chance to record a win in 2012.

The last time these two teams met, UT Arlington knocked off Tech in the Thomas Assembly Center in four sets, and the Mavericks currently lead the all-time series record 5-2 over LA Tech.

The Techsters are led offensively by junior Clara Vido, who has 231 kills this season, and sophomore setter Maria Coelho, who ranks sixth in the WAC individual standings with 854 assists in 2012. Vido is averaging 2.41 kills per set, while Coelho has an average of 8.37 assists in each set this season.

Defensively, Tech is led by junior Caitlin Germany who has 67 total blocks this season with an average of 0.87 per set, while Coelho trails slightly with 64 total blocks and 0.63 per set.

Senior libero Stephany Salas is also a major contributor to the Techsters as she has totaled 358 digs with an average of 3.69 per set in 2012.

While the Techsters have been eliminated from postseason play, UT Arlington is facing a must-win situation Thursday, as a win over Tech will put them in the WAC Tournament as the eighth seed.

The match will be streamed live on UT Arlington's website with radio also available for fans to listen to the match. Streaming can be accessed at www.utamavs.com under the front-page calendar tab, while radio can be found at www.utaradio.com.
