No. 9 Hawaii Defeats Tech in Three Games
The No. 9 nationally-ranked Hawaii Wahine defeated Louisiana Tech in three games (30-16, 30-11, 30-20) at the Stan Sherriff Center on Friday, as the Lady Techsters closed out their regular season before heading to the Western Athletic Conference tournament next week.
Hawaii (22-6, 16-0) extended its WAC winning streak to 107 matches and finished its WAC slate with a perfect record for the seventh-consecutive season, while the Lady Techsters (15-17, 2-14) finished last in the WAC and will face the Wahine again in the conference tournament.
Hawaii dominated the match from start to finish, as the Wahine hit .363 for the match compared to Tech's .041. Hawaii also out-dug the Lady Techsters 56-35 and out-blocked them 13-5.
Junior Ambra Hayes led Tech with nine kills, followed by junior Anielle Da Silva's seven kills. Sophomore Shannon Phillips had five kills, senior Stacey Clark had four, and sophomore Lauren Gustafson wrapped up the scoring with three kills.
Sophomore Jillann Walker played the majority of the match at setter and finished with 19 assists, while fellow sophomore setter Maria Romanowski played one game and had seven assists. Freshman Meghan Haas led Tech's defense with 13 digs.
The Lady Techsters will play in the WAC Tournament next week, beginning on Nov. 26 in Reno, Nev.
