
![]() Salas Named All-Louisiana Newcomer of the Year, Second Team-All Louisiana

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech volleyball players Stephany Salas and Clara Vido were honored by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Monday morning as they were named to the 2011 all-Louisiana volleyball team as selected by the sports information directors from across the state. Salas was named Newcomer of the Year in addition to being named a second team selection while Vido received honorable mention for her 2011 season. Both received LSWA honors for the first time in their Lady Techsters career. Junior Salas came to Tech from Lee College after a stellar career for the Lady Rebels. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native led the WAC in digs per set with 4.62 and recorded a team-high 407 digs. Salas ranked third in digs in conference play with 3.94 digs/set. She registered a season-high 35 digs against Houston Baptist on Sept. 17, 2011. She had 20 or more digs in seven games. She also ended the season with 39 assists, 20 kills and 15 service aces. Vido, a sophomore from São Bernardo, Brazil, led the Lady Techsters averaging 2.57 kills/set. She finished the 2011 season ranked seventh in the WAC with 3.04 digs/set and second on the team with 252 digs. She was one of two Tech players to record over-200 kills (213 kills was second on the team behind Marcella Braz's 216). Vido registered a team-high nine double-doubles on the season, her last one coming against in-state rival Northwestern St. on Oct. 19 (11 kills and 15 digs). Vido recorded a season-high 21 kills vs. Rutgers on Aug. 27, 2011 at the Sam Houston Invitational and a season-high 22 digs vs. SE Louisiana on Sept. 9, 2011 at the Louisiana Tech Invitational. She registered at least two blocks on four different occasions.
The Techsters ended the 2011 season 10-22 (0-14 WAC) marking 2011 the fourth consecutive season they've reached double-digits in wins. Stephany Salas (2011) Led the WAC in digs/set with 4.62...
