Tech Places Three on All-Louisiana Volleyball Squad

BATON ROUGE, La. – Three Louisiana Tech volleyball players were recognized for their play during the season by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association on Saturday.

Lia Mora and Cristine Sant’Anna were named to the All-Louisiana Second Team while Megan Rush was named All-Louisiana Honorable Mention.

The three Lady Techsters were integral ingredients of the 11-win turnaround Tech had on the season as Tech played its toughest schedule ever.

Mora, a sophomore setter from Soracaba, Brazil, returned from a knee injury in 2001 to have one of the best years ever for a setter at Tech.

Mora posted the fourth most assists in a single season in Tech history with 1,354 and was named to four All-Tournament teams in pre-conference action. Mora was one of two setters honored and both were second team selections. Mora was also an All-Louisiana selection as a freshman in 2000.

Sant’Anna also had splendid season and was on the all-tournament team at two events while setting a school record with 56 aces. Her 433 kills were the fourth most ever at Tech and she was Tech’s first WAC player of the week.

Rush, a sophomore from Garland, Texas, elevated her play as the season progressed. Rush finished in the top ten in blocks in the WAC and posted a .300 hitting percentage, the highest for a Tech player since 1995.

Rush also posted two, nine-block matches which tie her for the fourth most blocks in a single match in Lady Techster volleyball history.

Tech, Tulane and LSU all had three players honored by the LSWA on Saturday.
Tech will return five starters next season.
